Who it’s for

Pathway 2 is for managers in local authorities who are responsible for the performance of a team of social workers.

Experienced practice supervisors or assistant team managers who want to become middle managers can also do Pathway 2.

What you’ll learn

Completing Pathway 2 will help you:

  • set and communicate an ambitious vision for your team
  • put in place anti-racist and inclusive practices
  • give effective feedback
  • support the mental health and wellbeing of your team
  • draw on and critique research to develop the quality of practice
  • influence key stakeholders and manage multi-agency partnerships

  • current middle managers to access Pathway 3 for heads of service
  • aspiring middle managers for promotion to middle manager roles

How it’s delivered

Timescales

Pathway 2:

  • lasts for 10 months
  • takes about 56 hours to complete
  • runs twice a year starting in January and October

In-person learning

There are 4 days on site at the University of Warwick run as separate 2-day residentials.

Sessions are run by social work leaders and leadership development experts and include:

  • keynote talks
  • discussion time
  • practical workshops
  • time to build relationships with peers

Online learning

Includes:

  • live interactive workshops run by sector experts
  • one-to-one coaching with a dedicated development coach
  • self-directed study sessions with a mix of reading, videos and reflection

You'll do about 24 hours of online learning. Each session lasts 1.5 to 3 hours.

Funding

Pathway 2 is funded by the Department for Education.

Accommodation and meals for the on-site days are included, but your employer will need to cover travel costs.
